The Poetry Cafe, London - Friday 8th July 2016
In all I read 28 poems/stories/prose-pieces...
Pretty much everything that I read from the first half of The First Half was early material which is collected together in my collection SHY YETI RULES OKAY (2009) which is available from:
These are poems from my first dozen collections or so - from JUNK/FOOD in 2002 until THE SHY LIFE in 2009, all but THE SORRY TALE OF FRED THE DINOSAUR was written in the 00s, whilst FRED dates from right back to 1992. After these poems John Smallshaw read for a while, followed by a new poet at one of my shows, Rich Harris, who I have known for a while online, but never met. Rich has agreed to let me interview him for the podcast - so there will be more to come from him and hopefully he'll come to another show in the future. I think our styles complement each other well in the same way that John's poetry also fits in very well into a yeti show. Rich has a new book out - but more about that at the end. I'm hoping to include poems by both Rich and John in the podcast episodes that was recorded on the night - but that won't be out until late July/early August.
I returned after John and Rich had read and the next three pieces were from my most recent collection - A YETI WAY OF THINKING; the first two being poems and the third one being a short story. A YETI WAY OF THINKING is available from:
AUTUMN WON'T HAPPEN / I AM NOT A FAN OF THE METAPHOR / TIME IS THE THUG
At the moment these three are only available here on the blog - although they are due to be collected together with other writings posted here between 2015 and 2016 sometime early next year.
BECOMING MORE CAT-LIKE
This is one of my favourites - which is available from my SHY YETI STILL RULES OKAY compilation at: http://www.lulu.com/shop/paul-chandler/shy-yeti-still-rules-ok/paperback/product-20399409.html
These three are from 2009's SHY YETI RULES OKAY compilation - although the poems were originally from different collections.
THE DREADED LURGY / THE ONE / PICCADILLY IS A RUBBISH CIRCUS / YOU'LL DO
These four are also from A YETI WAY OF THINKING, published earlier this year. This was followed by further poems by John and Rich.
This was probably the most recent piece - published on my blog a month or two ago.
These three are from some of my collections from the late 00s or early 10s - but they were compiled together for 2012's SHY YETI STILL RULES OKAY.
These two are from the same book - one I sort of read because of its vague wedding theme, with I WILL EAT PIES being the piece that I usually finish my shows with.
Thanks especially to John Smallshaw for performing a splendid set of poems. He had a pretty busy long weekend - when I saw again on Monday afternoon it was at his wedding reception and he'd just married his girlfriend, Reet! Thanks also to Rich Harris for reading - and also for agreeing to let me interview him for the podcast in the next few weeks. He has a book out, by the way - it's called Dark and can be found at:
It's available in paperback and e-book format.
I would also like to thank everybody who came along, especially to Nick and Aly Goodman who drove all the way up from Salisbury and to Aly again for driving me back again so that I could spend the weekend with them and also see my parents...
As for when the next show will be - well, I'd like to have said October - but I've just heard back from the Poetry Cafe that they are under-going refurbishment from September and it sound like they could be closed until, at least, the new year. They did mention that they might be looking into alternative performance space - or it might be that I can find somewhere else to do a show - but I'm afraid that I don't have anything definite for you at the moment.
Before I bid you farewell, here are a few photos from the night...
Don't forget - my 12-track "lost" 2012 recording, THE KISS ME QUICK E.P. was recently released on Bandcamp at: https://shyyeti.bandcamp.com/album/the-kiss-me-quick-e-p and is available for just £2.

I definitely intend to write a 6th season of HOT STUFF!!, but do not definitely have plans for a 5th season of KENSINGTON GORE yet, not that this necessarily means that I won't be writing more of this series.
